This past Sunday, the Quincy Symphony Orchestra opened their season at the brand new Quincy High School with a Halloween Concert. The performers were all professional adults and the conductors name was Yoichi Udagawa. He was great and really seemed to like what he was doing and was happy about the pieces that they were playing. A few of them had costumes on for Halloween. He did a good job explaining things before each piece like "The Witches Ride" and "Danse Macabre" where the solo violinist tuned her violin a different way so that it would sound more high pitched. Her music was supposed to be calling all the ghosts in the cemetary to come out and dance at night. The xylophone is supposed to sound like a skeleton dancing and in the "morning" there is a rooster sound and the music all stops. The last piece they played was called "Night on Bald Mountain" and it was also set at night with spooky kinds of music. I would recommend this performance to anyone because it was close, easy to get to, had snacks at intermission and was also free! The performers were excellent and the conductor seemed really excited about what he was doing. It was very entertaining!!
