Band goals for 2011-2012

For this year in band, i would like to accomplish several things including an increase in personal practicing, work on tuning my instrument by ear, and my sight reading comprehension. Since the beginning of the school year, my frequency on practicing my trumpet has been less than adequate and i believe that if i begin practicing more, than I will almost indefinitely notice a change in performance. I've also noticed recently that I have been struggling at times to tell whether or not my trumpet is in sync with my partner and the surrounding musicians. I hope that by the end of the year, I will have tuned my hearing enough to better tell if my trumpet is playing equally with those around me. Finally, I would like to better myself in sight reading. I believe that I find it difficult at times to be able to read a measure and play it back the same as it is written. Whether I work on pacing myself and studying the notes more carefully, or I work on fingering transitions and note accuracy without variations in the octaves. Either way, I will be further satisfied if I manage to grow better at it. I believe all of these goals are within my reach and by the end of the year I will have improved in all areas.
